Salisbury Playhouse is spot on target with this year's panto, Robin Hood, a fantastic festive treat to delight theatregoers of all ages.

In the title role, Giovanni Spano (hailed enthusiastically as Hood Hood Hood!) exudes ebullient energy to foil the wiles of the evil Sheriff of Nottingham, played by the swashbuckling Greg Barnett. Adrian Grove is the splendid panto dame, Nurse Nora Virus who provides comedy galore. Bernadette Bangura is Consuela - the Sheriff'ds lively Spanish housekeeper - to ensure a mention of Brexit.

This action-packed production has marvellous, spectacular sets, costumes and effects, and a truly amazing dragon! Maid Marian is played by Alice Stokoe. Leonard Cook is Friar Tuck; Lauren Azania is the enigmatic Allan A'Dale. Shane Gibb and Amber Sylvia Edwards have ensemble roles.

Members of the cast venture into the audience at times, bringing the exciting action even closer and thrilling the youngest pantogoers. The musical ensemble, sound effects, vivid spotlights and sparkling foil all enhance the excitement of a great theatre trip. In traditional style, there are special greetings to members of the audience who have notable celebrations.Everyone is encouraged to join in the song about Robin Hood - "feared by the bad; loved by the good!"

The panto is directed by Gareth Machin with musical director Christopher Peake; choreography is by Nicky Griffiths. It runs until January 12.

Everyone can go home happily knowing that in the end, good has indeed triumphed.
