A DRINK-driver was found to be four-times over the limit after police followed a tip-off from a worried shopkeeper.

David Eastman was found behind the wheel of his Citroen CF in a layby on the B4696 between South Cerney and Royal Wootton Bassett on December 19.

Breathalyser tests at Gablecross police station found the 43-year-old had 141 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath – four times the legal limit of 35 microgrammes.

Appearing before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning, Eastman, of Nantwich, Freshbrook, pleaded guilty to a charge of drink driving.

Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, said police had been called on Thursday by a concerned shopkeeper who was worried Eastman had driven to the store while under the influence of alcohol. He failed the roadside breath test and was taken to the police station, where he fully admitted drink driving.

Defending, Clare Gooding said her client had long-standing issues with drink and poor mental health. Eastman was very keen to get help, she added.

Magistrates ordered a pre-sentence report and bailed the drink driver to appear before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on January 3 for sentence.
