DEBENHAMS has revealed which 19 of its department stores will be shutting across the country this month.

The branches will close between January 11-19 after the company entered administration in April last year. Around 600 jobs will be lost as a result.

In total, Debenhams is expecting to close 50 stores in 2020. It was reported last spring that Swindon's iconic town centre shop would not be among them.

When the closures were first planned last year Terry Duddy, executive chairman for the company, said: “Debenhams has a clear strategy and a bright future, but in order for the business to prosper, we need to restructure the group’s store portfolio and its balance sheet, which are not appropriate for today’s much changed retail environment.

“Our priority is to save as many stores and as many jobs as we can, while making the business fit for the future.”

Overall 1,200 jobs are expected to be lost.
