NOT only is he the legend of radio but he was crowned king of the jungle.

Tony Blackburn isn't afraid of diving in the deep end and that's why he took on the ITV's programme I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! in 2002.

His agent approached him about going onto its first episode.

Tony said: "They rang me up and asked me how I would feel being dropped into the middle of Australia in the rainforest.

"I said 'that sounds great' but I thought he was winding me up but then ITV contacted me again."

Tony couldn't believe that they were serious about putting him in the middle of nowhere in a country across the world.

His wife Debbie wasn't too sure he could do it.

He told the Adver: "My wife told me 'I'm not sure you'd be any good at it' and my mum didn't have much faith either.

"I told ITV that I was vegetarian, I was 60-years-old and I wouldn't be willing to kill anything. They still called me back and asked me to go on."

But he wanted to take it head on because he knew he would regret it if he didn't.

He said: "These things only come once in your life and I would have hated myself if I didn't go. I knew I could handle it but I am quite a private person so that was new. I never thought I could win it though.

"The people I was with hated each other right from the beginning. Before we were in the jungle they were arguing but they did come to me for advice.

"Seeing Ant and Dec was great, they're lovely people, really genuine. They're just how they are on the TV."
