A Dance to the Music of Time was a lively and interactive performance of dance and music, performed for the residents, and their families, of Hungerford House care home in Corsham.
A local group of Creative Arts Psychotherapists was successfully awarded funding from Corsham Town Council to devise a performance that would uplift and connect residents, as well as actively engage them through their own creativity. The performance was presented using mindful movement, music, singing and storytelling, embracing a sequence of familiar age-related scenes, which included a train journey to the seaside of the residents’ choice, and a homecoming after work to the infamous Archers tune.
The audience responded enthusiastically by tapping their feet, clapping their hands and singing along. Some even got up to do the Jitterbug. The residents joined in unreservedly, creating a palpable sense of heightened energy in the room. One lady said that the performance had made her day.
The piece concluded with a collection of words shared by the residents, which were brought together into a poem
The Hub of Creative Arts Psychotherapists South West members who performed were Hannah Creighton, Aguas Santas, Sarah Frostick and Alice Liddell-Allen. For more information about future performance work please contact gyidance.co@hotmail.co.uk
