A GRANDMOTHER fears she is being targeted by a would-be thief who has tried to get into her family’s cars three times.

In the latest incident at Veronica Zarola’s home in Bankfoot Close in Shaw on January 6, the thief trying car door handles was caught on camera again.

She said: “He keeps coming back. This is the third time. I have reported it to the police and I have also made my neighbours aware, consequently two of my neighbours have now installed a camera.

“But he is still coming around trying the vehicles to see if there’s anything in there.”

On the CCTV footage, the man is masked up, making it difficult for Veronica to identify him.

She added: “The second time around he did wear the same clothes, so I think it’s the same man.

“I got a young grandson as well, so I don’t want people coming into my property trying my car doors, or next he is going to try my front door,” she said.

“Why should somebody step on into my property and try to steal my things I worked for?

“It makes me angry really because how dare they try to come in and try to steal something from me.

“And then you think how far he would go.”

The incidents have made Veronica more aware of the dangers of leaving her cars unlocked.

She said: “I do feel safe in the area. However, when I leave the house I make sure everything is locked, the windows, the doors.

“I don’t even have the window open in the daytime downstairs.”

The 55-year-old alerted her neighbours and discovered they have experienced similar incidents over the past few months.

Now she wants to let more people know in order to stop them from happening.

She added: “ I think it is just raising awareness. We need to be noisier. And it helps the police as well.

“In your area, it’s important to get to know your neighbours and let them know what is happening.

“Years ago, I feel like there was more a sense of community, people would look out for each other more, but now everyone is busy.

“My neighbours have also said that things have happened to them. The police said unless they know who he is, they can’t really do anything.”

The Adver approached Wiltshire Police for a comment.
