We need to see results

As usual, Police and Crime Commissioner Angus Macpherson is asking for more money via the police precept of the council tax to support the force in one way or another.

If one was able to turn what he says into a manufactured product, I could cover my garden with it!

In my mind, and bearing in mind what I see happening around me, it is my humble opinion that I can see no way that he has increased the services promised over the last two years. ‘Oh Yes, we have x number of officers under training etc’ ! That means nothing to me as I can see no justifiable results/improvements over the last couple of years.

I can imagine Angus Macpherson’s salary could be far better spent without him. I have tried many times to ask him to fund a ‘Young Driver Initiative’ in the area and the excuse is always the same. ‘Sorry, not enough funding’ and yet many other police and crime commissioners are able to do so with success. Why not him?

I don’t want to contribute another £1 a month until I can see some sort of result.

GWH staff are wonderful

I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at the Great Western Hospital, Swindon.

On January 3, I required a paramedic to call on me at home. He was extremely kind and caring and after an initial assessment of my condition rang for an ambulance, which arrived in a matter of minutes. The two young male paramedics who came were also polite and understanding and put me at ease.

Upon my arrival at A&E I was promptly attended to by two doctors who arranged for me to be transferred to the surgical assessment ward ,whereby I was treated for my problem and moved to the Meldon Ward. The staff on these two wards were also extremely kind and caring and nothing was too much trouble.

I cannot express my appreciation enough for the exceptional way I was treated during my hour of need.

Thank you our marvellous NHS!

Sensible policies

Mr Woodward (SA, January 9) appears to purposely or otherwise misconstrue my comments on America.

The point is England is not America and Boris Johnson has no intent to lead the UK down that path, as has been made clear in his spending plans.

And no I do not watch YouTube.

I decry Mr Woodward’s shoddy attempt to belittle Boris Johnson. He was a successful journalist, a two-term Mayor of London, is a colourful character, has the gravitas when required and he is the prime minister.

Mr Corbyn, on the other hand, has never had a proper job and hasn’t the decency to step down immediately having lost.

Conservatives came to the rescue in 2015. The economy has been on a constant rise and is continuing to do so.

Boris Johnson won the general election because his sensible policies appealed to the electorate. Disgruntled ex-Labour voters assisted in his 80-seat majority. It is said that it would have been over 100 if the Brexit Party had not ‘helped’ him.

The electorate saw through the ridiculous proposals of Messrs Corbyn and McDonnell, all ‘fully costed’ – by Diane Abbott perhaps.

We can now look forward to five years of Conservative government, maybe 10 or possibly more.

In the meanwhile the Labour Party fragments. There’s politics for you.
