OFFICERS raided a house in East Wichel before dawn after a man in his 20s was stabbed multiple times, police have confirmed.

A spokeswoman for Wiltshire Police confirmed two 17-year-old boys found at the canalside home on Yelland Walk were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

In total five young men, four aged 17 and one 18-year-old, have been arrested in connection with the stabbing on Friday afternoon. One of the men, 17, has been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent while the others were arrested on a violent disorder charge.

Police were called at around 3pm on Friday to reports of a fight outside a house on Mattocks Path, near the canal. A man, 20, received a number of stab wounds to his lower body. He was taken to Great Western Hospital. The wounds are not thought to be life changing.

Det Sgt Justin Downes of Swindon CID said the stabbing was thought to be a targeted attack involving a group of young men who were known to each other.

He added: "This was a nasty assault but luckily does not seem to have caused life-threatening injuries to the victim.”

Mattocks Path residents expressed their astonishment at the violence.

One man, 40s, told the Adver: “I didn’t expect it in this area – but I’m not surprised.”

Another, 38, who did not want to give his name, added: “It’s a shock.”
