LANE closures on Great Western Way could cause headaches for motorists in the town this week.

Swindon Borough Council and Thames Water have lane closures in place at three points along the arterial route.

Two lots of the works are part of borough road improvement schemes, including a project to tunnel beneath the M4.

The council will have a lane closure on Great Western Way northbound between the slip road to Bodiam Drive to Mannington Roundabout. The closure will be in place from 9.30am to 3.30pm on Monday and Tuesday, with workers able to extend the closure until 4.30pm if they need to.

Council workers could close lane one between the Blagrove roundabout and junction 16 from Monday, January 20 and Saturday, February 15.

The works form part of plans to tunnel beneath the M4 in order to build the southern access road designed to connect Wichelstowe with Wroughton and the motorway. The government has earmarked £23m for the scheme, which is expected to be complete by spring 2021.

At the Barnfield Close roundabout on the approach to Bruce Street Bridges Thames Water has permission to close a lane from Tuesday, January 21 to Thursday, January 23. Engineers plan to reset a fire hydrant and frame.

Gipsy Lane and Bridge End Road remain closed for gas mains work.
