MAGISTRATES bailed a man accused of stealing £7,000-worth of jewellery from a town centre home.

Lee Dommett is alleged to have taken a 24 carat sovereign ring, gold chain and Diesel watch from a house on Station Road, Swindon, on January 11.

Appearing before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning, the 36-year-old, of Croft Road, Old Town, entered no pleas to the charge as it is an indictable only offence, meaning the pleas can only be taken at the crown court.

After hearing representations from the Crown, represented by Graham Dono, and Dommett’s solicitor Andrew Watts-Jones, magistrates granted the alleged burglar unconditional bail. He is due before Swindon Crown Court on February 21.

Domestic burglaries carry a sentence of up to 14 years' jail. There is a minimum sentence of three years for those being sentenced for their third house break-in.
