AN APPEAL by Annette Cairns made against a refusal to grant her planning permission has been retrospectively denied, meaning she now faces moving her parents’ mobile home out of her garden.

The initial plan was to put the mobile home in the grounds at Peterborough Lodge in Dauntsey Lock, as accommodation for the Mrs Cairns’ elderly parents, and was refused by Wiltshire Council.

She appealed, but an inspector ruled the location of the mobile home was unsuitable for the residential needs of the occupants.

Their report went on to say that despite Dauntsey having local services, these amenities would not be accessible enough meet the day-to-day needs of the occupants.

The inspector said the area also lacks proper walkways and “the observed vehicular speeds and distance to local services would not be conductive to pedestrian movements to and from the village or local services.”

This was disputed by Mrs Cairns, who said her parents would not need to be close to services and they would “not require 24 hour care but to have family near for daily tasks is invaluable.”

The inspector said: “None of the other matters outweigh or alter my conclusion on the main issue.”
