Three days after winning praise for her chairing of her a Honda Task Group meeting, business secretary Andrea Leadsom has been fired.

Prime minister Boris Johnson dismissed Mrs Leadsom from the job he gave her in July as part of his first cabinet reshuffle yesterday morning.

Mrs Leadsom had visited Swindon on Monday to chair the national minister-led task group set up in the wake of Honda’s decision to stop making cars at its South Marston plant in 2021.

The next meeting of the highest level task group will be chaired by its third business secretary in just over a year after Mrs Leadsom and predecessor Greg Clark.

South Swindon MP and justice secretary Robert Buckland kept his job in the reshuffle.
