A FAMILY celebrating 60 years of shop keeping in Wiltshire are planning an anniversary float for the Pewsey Carnival.

The Connolly family run the Spar shops in Pewsey and Tidworth, and have done since 1961.

So they are now on the look out for a low loader lorry on which to build their diamond anniversary showpiece for the Pewsey Carnival.

"The float will be the start of our anniversary year, " said Susan Connolly, who is now the business development manager of the family affair.

"It was my grandfather, Malcom Connolly, who started the business in 1961, with his wife Doris, "she said.

The stores are now in the hands of her mother and father, Andrew and Teresa.

"We have loads of old pictures of the store and people over the years," said Susan. "So we might create an old store on the float, or maybe use the diamond theme! We have to decide on that yet!"

Pewsey Carnival's annual general meeting meets on March 23 when the theme of the year will be decided.
