A MULTI-MILLION pound tech hub for Nationwide has just opened in a Swindon business park.

Around 700 people from the building society’s digital team have set up inside a state-of-the-art eco-friendly workspace at Ramsbury House in Kembrey Park which supplies all of its energy from renewable sources and recyclable material.

Nationwide’s director of branch and workplace development Richard Newland said: “The opening of this building is a huge milestone for Nationwide and a culmination of months of careful planning.

“We’re proud to be investing in our hometown where we want to attract, retain and develop talent locally and continue to be an innovative employer, that people want to work for and recommend to their friends.

“This is a multi-million-pound investment for Swindon, the building society, our colleagues and our members and will accelerate our approach towards digital innovation and technology.

“We’ve designed the space using industry-leading best practices to ensure our people are equipped to continue to provide the very best services and experiences for our members. We’re incredibly proud to bring this world-class facility to our home in Swindon.”

Nationwide has partnered with Wiltshire-based charity Waste to Wonder, to help redistribute, rather than throw out, any unused office furniture and IT equipment to schools who really need it.

The company is promoting wellbeing at work by including relaxing spaces, an onsite gym and large cycle park at the new site.

A town hall-style space will be available for employee gatherings and for use by groups and businesses in the community.

MP for North Swindon Justin Tomlinson said: “This multi-million-pound investment demonstrates Nationwide’s continuing commitment to Swindon.

“This state-of-the-art office will provide the digital and technology skills that will mean that the town will continue to thrive in the future. As a new hub for the community, I encourage local groups and businesses to make use of the impressive new town hall space.”

In 2019, Nationwide announced plans to open two new hubs, in Swindon and London. Following the opening of Ramsbury House, construction work is well underway for The Post Building, in Holborn, with its official opening planned for later in 2020.
