STORM DENNIS may have dampened spirits, but howling gales and sleet didn't deter Great Bedwyn super mum Lucy Harvey.

Rugby mum Lucy Harvey battled the elements to run a kit fund raising marathon distance of 26.2 miles - during her kid's planned rugby practice last Sunday.

But she found out 18 miles in - that practice had been cancelled due to bad weather,.

Upholsterer Lucy has three rugby-mad kids – nine-year-old Rose and five-year-old twins Billy and Joe – who spend their Sundays with Hungerford’s minis.

.She had started from Great Bedwyn home at 6.30 on Sunday morning. “I got a call at about 18 miles to say everything was off, but I thought ‘I’m not stopping now’,” Lucy said. “So there was almost no-one at the club when I arrived. Even my kids weren’t there till later because I was faster than I expected to be!”

Lucy’s four hours 26 minutes effort took her through Wilton, along Chute Causeway to Fosbury, then on to Shalbourne, Ham, Inkpen, Kintbury and across Hungerford Common to the rugby club at Triangle Field.

“I didn’t mind it being quiet at the finish,” Lucy said. “I don’t like lots of fuss so it suited me. I’ve been a runner for a long time and I’ve run seven marathons but this was perhaps the best because I like running on my own and in the countryside.”
