It would appear that although the money was successfully raised for Swindon’s radiation unit.The planning is only now getting underway, almost two years after the event.

Seems to me to be a somewhat overly lengthy process. We have seen in China they have managed to build a new hospital is just a few weeks. Due to the Coronavirus problem.

Is not the Cancer Treatment for us here in the UK of equal importance? Why does everything take so long. Surely the Powers that Be have an Idea of what is required? Don’t they update this sort of info on a regular basis?

Why do we always seem to be in “CatchUp” mode in this country? It’s not only this it seems to be in everything.

Meanwhile ordinary folk just keep on dying.

Where are Boris`s promises about the NHS now?

We’re on the verge of snuffing ourselves out

JH Oliver’s letter (Climate conundrum, SA, March 3) criticised Greta Thunberg’s young supporters, so I’d like to address three points.

Firstly: how many were “decked out by their parents” in clothing largely made in factories powered ultimately by coal?

Do kids under the age of, say, twelve get a say in where their clothing was produced? Probably, their parents choose it for its price.

Secondly: many of them will want cars in future.

The days of the car are numbered. I have kids aged about 30 and neither of them has expressed any desire to own one.

Thirdly, climate activists bear some blame for nuclear waste.

This may be true – but how many of these youngsters lobbied for nuclear power? I’m fifty years older than most of these kids, and even I didn’t have any say in the matter.

Sadly, these children were born into a heavily-populated world addicted to fossil fuels. Homo sapiens has survived perfectly well for 12000 generations with scarcely a sniff of mineral oil until a dozen generations ago.

Now, thanks to big business convincing us that we need a whole load of superfluous tat, we are on the verge of snuffing ourselves out.

I heartily support the actions of young people who are intelligent enough to see what’s going on, and brave enough to bring it to the world’s attention.

Fond memories of a waggy-tailed friend

With great sadness in my heart I write these words.

My little Westie who went with me everywhere from Lands End to John of Groats, sadly dropped dead on his Monday night walk at four weeks before his twelfth birthday.

When my wife passed away I doubt I would have been so resolute without his support.

I write this with tears in my eyes at past wonderful memories of coastal walks. Visits to Glasgow, Blackpool, Weymouth with his little wagging tail in the car.
