TWO motorbikes were stolen from a garage in Melksham.

A residential garage in Lopes Close was broken into in the early hours of Saturday (February 8).

Police are appealing for information after the bikes were stolen.

The stolen bikes are described as:

- Yamaha WR 450 which is an enduro trials type bike in blue and white, with white hand guards, standard graphics/decals and blue wheels, index WX69 BFN. At the time of the theft it was missing both of its radiator guards and also the sump guard. Bolted to the rear mudguard there was a small enduro pouch/backpack in blue.

- Honda CRF 150R which is a motocross bike in red and white with standard graphics/decals. At the time of the theft it did not have its wheels attached. The bike was converted to super moto spec. The bike only had one hand guard in black attached to the right handlebar.

Both bikes have blue coloured “MH Racing” stickers on the rear suspension.

The initial enquiries suggest the bikes may have been taken to the Bath area the same morning they were stolen and it is believed the offenders were driving a grey/silver coloured '07 plate Vauxhall Astra SXI.

Anyone with information which can assist enquiries should call PC Jonathan Fry, from the Trowbridge area community policing team, quoting crime reference 54200013621. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

There has been a spate of motorbike thefts in Wiltshire in recent months and we have previously issued the following crime prevention advice to help reduce the chances of bikes being stolen:

- Ensure your bike is locked in a garage and secured by a bike chain/bike anchor/additional locks.

- If possible add additional security to the garage like extra locks and an alarm.

- Park another larger vehicle in front of the garage door to restrict access.
