PODCASTERS are diving into some of the darkest crime cases the country has known in the hope of shedding some light on what happened.

From the murder of Jill Dando to the killing of Evelyn Foster, Bethan Trueman and Mark Randell discuss cases during their weekly show Seeing Red to bring back stories which fade away from the public memory.

Since their first podcast released a couple of years ago, the pair have totalled more than 500,000 downloads - an average of 8,000 to 10,000 per episode.

Bethan, 30 from Swindon, told the Adver: “We worked together at the time and would discuss cases in the news that we found interesting and both loved listening to podcasts.

“I like telling a story that really moves people. Sometimes the research is hard but that’s when I know I really need to tell that story.

“We hope that we may help an investigation. Some of our cases have been solved, but others are unsolved and for these, we discuss our theories and encourage our listeners to do the same. I am an avid reader and I love fiction, but the true crime stuff is so interesting. But also chilling! Humans are scary.”

Bethan currently works in finance and Mark is an office manager, but they hope the show will grow enough to be turned into full-time jobs.

She added: “We are amateurs who have spent a lot of our time and energy into creating a show that we are very proud of.

“Currently, we make a little money but mostly the money is put back into running the show. It would be great to write a book and to take part in some live events.”

The pair said podcasting allowed them to build a community that shared the same interest.

Mark, 37, from Bristol said: “I love the community we have, not just our listeners but also other podcasters too. Most people are so friendly and happy to help.

“It’s a lot of hard work but it’s very rewarding.”

Bethan added: “It feels personal, I enjoy listening to hosts as I walk to and from work, but I also love how I can connect with the people who listen to me.”
