A group that helps the homeless is adapting its support to ensure they continue to have access to food during the crisis.

The Filling Station, which has operated in Swindon every Thursday for over 20 years, supports 50 homeless people or those at risk of homelessness each week.

They will now hand out bags of tinned food which can be easily heated or eaten straight from the tin instead of the usual soup, coffee and hot dogs.

Trustee Angus Macpherson said “Because the sandwiches and hot dogs we normally serve are prepared by a range of volunteers, we feel we have to be very cautious. We also need to ensure that we do not encourage this vulnerable group to congregate more than absolutely necessary.”

The Filling Station operates from Queens Street Car Park between 7pm-8.30pm.
