A warning has gone out to the elderly and people self-isolating to be wary of scammers posing as police or health officials and knocking on doors.

In a social media post Wiltshire police stressed there had been no reports as yet but "We all know how criminals like taking advantage of increasing trends and concerns."

The force said: "Please as always be extremely wary of anyone visiting homes posing as police officers and health officials in an effort to scam the occupants or gain entry with a view to burgling the home. Tactics may include the criminals offering fake coronavirus testing and fake services to assist those who are unable to leave their homes including the collection and delivery of shopping and other essentials.

"The bank, police, council, social services medical professionals will never send someone to your home to collect your bank cards, cash or ask for your PINs. If someone calls you claiming to be from any agency we would urge you to ask for their name, hang up and contact the company directly."
