REPORTS of a suspected burglary in Old Town led police to a cannabis factory.
A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of growing the class B drug.
Insp Steve Love said: “I would like to thank the vigilant member of the public who reported their concerns to us immediately, which enabled us to attend quickly, cordon off the premises and make an arrest.
“Our enquiries into the incident are still very much ongoing at this time, but I would urge anyone who has concerns about suspicious activity at a property in their neighbourhood to report their concerns to police so action can be taken.”
Wiltshire Police said they received a 999 call at 5pm on Tuesday reporting a possible break-in at a terraced house on Winifred Street.
When officers turned up they found around 300 plants packed into the house.
A cordon was in place while the plants were removed from the house. They have been destroyed.
Engineers from the electricity board were at the scene late on Tuesday night, using a digger to excavate by the house. There was a strong smell of cannabis outside the home.
