Two people are in custody after being arrested on suspicion of involvement in the production of cannabis.

Shortly after 9pm on Wednesday, officers were made aware of a Volkswagen Polo and a Citroen Van in suspicious circumstances in the Greenbridge area.

Police attended and conducted searches of the vehicles, finding a number of items believed to be used in the production of class B drugs - including lamps, cabling and plastic sheeting.

The occupants could not account for the items.

A man in his 40s from Reading and a man in his 50s from London were both arrested.

They remain in custody at Gablecross for further questioning.

Inspector Barry Reed said: “Although at the early stages of our enquiries, we believe the items in these vehicles were to be used in the production of cannabis.

“We are grateful to the individual who initially reported their concerns regarding the suspicious activity involving the vehicles and their occupants.

"This proves it is vital to report your concerns regarding any issues or what appears to be suspicious behaviour in your neighbourhood as we will take action.”
