CALNE Town Council has cancelled this year’s carnival due to be held on June 27 in response to the Covid-19 emergency.

Calne Summer Carnival is one of the largest events organised by the council with around 5000 people usually attending.

Event officer Erin Weaver said: ‘‘I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who had already signed up to attend the event, either as a stallholder, entertainer, float/walking entry or volunteer.

“We look forward with the excitement in knowing that the 2021 Carnival will be bigger and better than what was due to take place this year.”

Calne Town Mayor, Cllr Robert Merrick, said “It is with the most profound regret that Calne Town Council has had to cancel our well attended and excellent Summer Carnival. However, with the lockdown in place and taking each day as it comes, it is best that we cancel for public safety.

“We all know by now that we need to Stay Home, Protect the NHS and Save Lives, so I am sure you will agree that this is for the best.”
