Police have released more information on a six mile police chase that ended in Pinehurst on Thursday night.

The police helicopter and a significant number of officers could be seen searching parkland around the Southbrook playing fields.

The chase began on the High Street, Cricklade, just after 8pm. The black Vauxhall Corsa was pursued from Cricklade to Swindon.

The Adver understands that officers had tried to stop the car in connection with the search of a man wanted for an assault in Swindon last month.

The Corsa was brought to a halt on Pinehurst Road. Officers managed to catch one of the vehicle’s occupants. Another fled.

A total of four men have been arrested in connection with the incident.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving without a licence or insurance. He has been released under investigation.

Three others remain in custody. They are all local men and aged 19, 21 and 35. Police have not said what charges the men face.

The force confirmed that the police presence around the Chelworth Industrial Estate, Cricklade, last night and today is connected to the incident on Thursday night.
