The council will find out in the Autumn is it’s won £25m from the government to put towards the redevelopment of Fleming Way and the bus station.
Swindon Borough Council wants to remodel the area into a “bus boulevard”, with all national and local bus services operating from Fleming Way.
It has been confirmed that a final bid for £25m has been submitted to the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government. The council will know by the autumn if it has been successful.
Dale Heenan, Swindon Borough Council’s cabinet member for the town centre, said earlier this year: “The replacement of the bus station is long overdue and this significant scheme will not just benefit those who live and work here, but create a lasting impression on people who come to visit our town. Swindon has been shortlisted for £25m by the government from hundreds of bids, and we now have to wait until the autumn for a final decision.
“This would be one of the largest investments in the heart of our town in a generation and sends a message to businesses that Swindon is a place in which to invest.”
The final bid has now been submitted to the Government for our proposed £33m Bus Boulevard scheme, which would see Fleming Way completely transformed.

The council plans to put £5m of its own cash towards the project. The Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership has contributed £3m to design the scheme.
If it gets the go-ahead, the existing bus station In New Bridge Close will be demolished after the new transport hub has been completed, with the council intending to make the land available for more houses and offices.
