A union representative has said Swindon teachers are frightened of returning to school next week.

On June 1, the government plans to reopen schools to reception, year 1 and 6 pupils but Swindon’s National Education Union representative Debbie Brown told the Adver many teachers have contacted her with concerns.

Here's what you said on Facebook:

Lee Brown: "Teachers do a fantastic job and I can understand their anxiety but unfortunately everyone else is starting to return to work, some have never stopped and have been in contact with others all the time so I think it is about time the country got back to normal jogging.

"I know schools will have in place ridged strategies for your return and I know they will have the recommended PPE and cleaning equipment.

Karen Brown: "It’s alright for NHS workers supermarket workers and all the other key workers but teachers are scared."

Su Davis: Anyone slating teachers at the moment needs a reality check.

"Five year olds who will randomly lick something, touch everything, wont understand distancing, don't cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze, don't wash their hands properly, may need assistance in the toilet, have accidents, the list is endless.

"It's pure craziness. I'm not a teacher, just a concerned parent who has a lot of respect for good teachers who want to do their job safely."

Lesley Neal: "My sister is starting back in foot health care she's apprehensive.

"I teach swimming and can't wait to get back but I'm sure I will feel the same.

"It's ok to be nervous, we've all been locked in our houses with constant scare mongering from press and an invisible virus flying around.

"I'm sure those who have been working have been nervous for months it's a normal reaction."

Carl McCulloch: "For all you people that are waiting for that “guarantee” that their children are safe from Covid, or the “guarantee” that’s it’s gone before you send your kids back to school, will be waiting a very long time.

"This will be around for ever. It will be like the flu in the end and come and go at different times of the year.

"But it will always be around us in some form. So guarantees won’t ever be given.

"And for those of you that say this isn’t the flu, I know that.

"Yes it’s harmful and can kill certain demographics, I am making the point that it’s around us every day.

"Life has to go back to normal asap for both economic and mental health."

Jon Tee: "Fair play to teachers for keeping our kids educated during this time, and even more credit to them for fighting to only reopen a schools once the science shows it’s safe to do so."

Robert Kordula: "A lot of teachers have been working throughout lockdown maybe this has slipped your mind.

"Teachers want to do the job they love, but they are human too and like all key workers need protection for themselves and their families."

Jonathan Thompson: "Unfortunately the disease is going to go on for a long time.

"People need to start living with it and getting on with their life's.

"There's probably more chance of getting mowed over by a chav in their German whip, then actually catching covid."

Karen Harwood: "A lot of teacher's frightened but the NHS still have to work."

Rickie Cheesley: "Can't believe anyone would even consider sending there kids back right now."

Nathanael Dissard: "If you're scared, stay home and let the ones who are ok go first."

Ian Jones: "Easy answer, if the teachers don't want to go back to school stop their pay.

"I bet they would change their minds."

Penny Dunne: "Don't send your lambs to the slaughter."

Dave Broome: "I have four boys aged 14, 10, 8 and 6. The 10-year-old is severely asthmatic and the only child allowed back is the 6-year-old.

"I’m not going to allow that to happen all back or none, at 6-years-old he won’t understand what’s going on."
