We reported, that some garden centres, which are opening again for the first time since lockdown, asked people to ‘keep your distance’ while browsing and shopping.

People particularly praised Matt Webb of Avonfield Garden Centre in Hilperton, who had set up a delivery service during lockdown.

Allison Jones: An amazing garden centre Avonfield, love love it, great quality and great prices too.

Corrina Jane Wilson: Lovely Garden Centre and Matthew is a lovely chap! The cafe is awesome too!

Suzanne Wilson: Just hope people abide by the rules ? But I know they haven’t, families have been going and even had picnics, need people to realise it’s like a supermarket buy what u need and then go back home, it’s not a family trip out.

Jane Millard: Avonfield is definitely the best garden centre around here and they are so helpful. The plants are always top notch too.

Chloe Wiltshire: Avonfield is the best garden centre around, always so helpful.

Eileen Allsworth: Well done Matt, you have worked so hard to keep people safe distancing.

This week we covered the shock death of the newly elected Devizes mayor, Andy Johnson.

Many of you were saddened by his passing and offered words of kindness to his family.

Peter Lamb: That is very sad!

Stacie Parmenter: So sad to see this. Andy was a lovely neighbour and always spoke. Much love to the family.

Charlie Osgood: Oh how awful.

Jennie Fry: So very sad RIP.

Lucy Self: So so shocked to hear this. This man was so lovely - we saw him the day he was given this role and he was absolutely overjoyed, saying he’d dreamed of this day for 15 years. Thinking of the family, such sad news.

Teena Cook: So sad. RIP

Clare Cape: Really shocked and sorry to hear this.

We also reported that Devizes has been awarded funds to carry out a feasibility study, which means the promised train station at Lydeway could be up and running in five years.

News that came as music to the ears of most.

Marmaduke Pheasant: Brilliant.

Matthew Saunders: My home town back on the map.

Rose Dale: That’s great news for the town.

Robin Hodson: Considering Corsham hasn’t reopened a station, and they’ve got a mainline already, how realistic is this? You’d need a new rail line for quite some distance, plus many new bridges, embankments, cuttings, road alterations etc. It would be much more expensive than just a station. Or are they planning just a station with no line?

Dennis Lance: But it won’t be anywhere near Station Road, need to jump in the car and drive to Lydeway. Might as well drive to Chippenham for a half hourly service.

In national news, the story around Dominic Cummings and his trip to Durham has kicked up a lot of strong feelings from politicians and the public.

This week, Devizes MP Danny Kruger defended Cummings, pictured left, over the trips, while North Wiltshire MP James Gray called for Cummings to ‘step back’ from government.

Here’s what you said:

Mike Pearce: Cummings’ position is untenable he must resign or be sacked otherwise the government cannot condemn any one else.

People going out now do not know if they are infected he knew his wife was and still went.

Why would anyone travel 250 miles in a car with their child knowing one of them had symptoms.

If nothing else they are irresponsible parents.

Sandie Lewis: My nephew did similar thing and left London for Scotland. It was the right thing for him at the time and hurt no one. This is all just about political cheap shots.

Fiona McLaughlan: Fed up with all this rubbish in the news the government have far more important things to deal with at the moment. Petty MP’s like that need to get back in their boxes like Andy Pandy.
