DOZENS of young trees planted at Royal Wootton Bassett Rugby Football Club have been stolen.

Up to 60 of the growing saplings donated and planted at the club boundary back in autumn have been removed by thieves.

The club reported the theft to police and staff are reviewing CCTV footage.

In a Facebook post marked 'feeling angry', a club spokesman said: "Please be on the lookout for anybody trying to sell or plant a job lot of trees.

"Now they have been lifted they will probably die in this hot weather with little chance that they will take again if replanted."

REME's rugby team regularly use Ballards Ash for corp and battalion fixtures so the team's sponsors CGI Group donated 360 trees to the site to help Bassett RFC improve the look of its boundaries and combat carbon emissions.
