A driver who led police on a chase near Swindon has been warned to expect custody.

Faizan Iqbal, 31, of Allington Court, Slough, was brought to a halt by specialist detectives and local cops on the A420 between Swindon and Watchfield after the BMW he was driving registered on a traffic camera on April 28.

He was charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without insurance and driving while disqualified.

Appearing before Swindon Crown Court via video link from HMP Bullingdon, Iqbal spoke only to confirm his name.

His barrister, James Partridge, asked for the case to be adjourned so it could be tied up with another case currently before the courts in Reading.

Judge Jason Taylor QC granted the request, remanding the defendant in custody for a hearing on June 22.

He told Iqbal: “You need to understand I am not giving you any indication whatsoever. From what I’ve read of the papers so far you should expect an immediate custodial sentence.”

The Crown Prosecution Service was represented in the Skype hearing by barrister Martyn Booth.
