SEVERAL staff at a Swindon construction firm could lose their jobs as the company carries out cost-cutting measures after struggling through the lockdown.

Edmont employees received the bad news that 19 of them are in the firing line and consultations are now being carried out with the workers affected by this decision.

A company spokeswoman said: “Like many companies across the UK, Edmont has experienced a downturn in business following the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, we had to make the difficult decision to restructure our business and make cost savings.

“We are deeply saddened by this, it’s not something we do lightly and it’s something we really regret having to do as our staff have been with us for a long time. But we genuinely have no alternative if we are to safeguard the future of the business and that is our priority.

“We are consulting with our employees about potential redundancies which are likely to impact no more than 14 per cent of our workforce.

“We will do all we can to minimise redundancies and support our people.Edmont has been a family-run business employing people in Swindon since 1972 and we want to ensure that we'll be here for another 50 years to come.”
