This year’s Bassett in Bloom has been cancelled.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council has announced the event that would have run on July 6 has been scrapped.

Instead the event will run in 2021.

A spokesperson for the town council said: “We’re sure our decision will not come as a surprise to our regular entrants, but we wish to confirm that it is with a heavy heart that we will not be running Royal Wootton Bassett In Bloom in 2020.

“Despite hoping that the situation and associated regulations would ease far enough for us to safely run the competition in a somewhat different but enjoyable manner for our entrants, we do not feel that this point has been reached.”

It is a long-established annual horticulture competition, usually supported by local MP James Gray.

For last year’s competition The Champion of Champions trophy was awarded to Lynn MacIndoe.

The presentation of the winners would have been held at The Angel in the High Street on September 7.
