WORKMEN have resumed digging up areas around the edges of Seacourt Park and Ride as plans to expand it continue.

The controversial £5.2m park and ride extension has faced several delays over the last six months.

In January and February, winter storms left the ground in the area waterlogged, halting work until it dried out.

The park and ride extension is on the edge of floodplain land, though is not thought to be in a high risk flood area.

And when the coronavirus pandemic hit the UK, all work on large construction sites was halted, including the park and ride site.

The city council then decided to restart work at the site in April and all workers were given extra PPE, though there was some criticism of the move coming from the Green Party.

The park and ride extension will add hundreds of new car parking spaces to the site.
