A Slough man has denied stealing another train passenger’s bags on a GWR service from London to the West Country.

Kimaro Simons, 32, is said to have moved two bags – with their contents worth an estimated £1,000 – from a luggage rack on a Swindon-bound train on June 30.

Police and train staff had been alerted to the alleged theft when the bags’ owner went to collect his belongings as the train pulled into Swindon railway station and the bags were gone.

Simons was arrested by officers at Chippenham railway station; the next stop on the line.

Appearing before Swindon Magistrates’ Court via video link from Melksham police station, Simons, of Stile Road, Slough, pleaded not guilty to a single charge of theft.

Magistrates remanded him in custody for a bail hearing at the Swindon court on Thursday, July 9.

Keith Ballinger appeared for the Crown. Mark Glendenning represented Simon.
