THE Savoy was forced to close its doors this lunchtime.

A flooded basement at the town centre Wetherspoons pub meant customers were turned away.

A plumber was on the way at 1pm this afternoon after staff had spent the morning bailing out waiter.

Mark Waites, the area manager for Wetherspoons, said: "The cellar was flooded and we've called a plumber who should be here any minute.

"We're hoping we'll be able to reopen later this afternoon.

"It's just a maintenance issue, nothing more than that."
