More cranes destined for the BMW Mini plant could cause drivers headaches on Saturday morning.

Wiltshire Police has warned that three abnormal loads will be transported from the M4 Membury Services to the BMW Pressings plant in Stratton on July 11.

The first convoy, made up of two 41 metre-long gantry cranes, will leave the services at around 9am. It will make its way to Swindon via junction 15, leave the A419 at the White Hart Roundabout and travel along Oxford Road before turning right at Greenbridge and entering the BMW plant on Swindon Road.

A second load, this time a 4.3m-wide panel press, will then leave Membury Services. It is expected to leave the A419 at the Commonhead Roundabout and reach BMW via Queens Drive and Drakes Way.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "All loads will be slow moving and have the potential to cause congestion throughout the route.  Around Swindon, oncoming traffic will be required to pull in and wait for the convoy to pass.

"Wherever possible, disruption will be kept to a minimum although both hauliers and motorists are asked to be patient should they come across this move.

"Anyone travelling over this period on time critical matters should allow sufficient additional time for their journey."

A large load also destined for BMW stopped traffic on the Highworth Road today.
