SHOPPERS will be reminded to wear masks while in the town centre by inSwindon BID street ambassadors.

Manager Mark Rogers said: "Since the reopening of non-essential shops on June 15 and, more recently, the hospitality sector, we have seen a steady rise in footfall for the town centre.

"With the introduction of face coverings we hope people will adopt this in a positive manner which will further increase consumer confidence for those who have not yet returned to their usual shopping habits and we continue to see footfall increase.

"We’re working with our retailers to actively promote those who currently sell face coverings across our social media channels in order to help people prepare for when the enforcement kicks in.

"Once the law is officially in place, our street ambassadors will kindly remind visitors to wear their face coverings when in shops.

"Although they have will no enforcement rights, we just want to help keep people safe in our town and continue to welcome them back."
