PLAY areas and some public loos in Warminster have finally re-opened following the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

Cllr Denis Brett, chairman of Warminster Town Council parks and recreation committee, said: “I am glad that the town council has been able to take these steps to re-open the toilets and play areas. I urge people to use them responsibly and safely.

“The skatepark is also open, but users must adhere to social distancing and the numbers limit of 10 people maximum.”

The town council runs nine play areas in Warminster, including one in the Lake Pleasure Grounds.

Cllr Brett added: “In re-opening the play areas, the council is at pains to remind people that they still need to follow anti-Covid-19 behaviour.

“These include: wash your hands before and after visiting the play area, keep a safe distance from other play area users, do not congregate or use the play area if it is busy, keep hands away from faces, use antibacterial gel/wipes before and after using the equipment.

“Members of the public are being asked to bring their own antibacterial gel or wipes. They should also be prepared to re-schedule a visit if they arrive there only to discover the play area is busy.”

The council is installing new signs in the play areas to reinforce the safety message to users.

The toilets in the Lake Pleasure Grounds have both been re-opened. In the Central Car Park, by the library, only the unisex/disabled toilet will re-open at present.

The council has risk-assessed other toilets in the town and is unable to open them safely at present.

The toilets and play areas were closed in March, and after the government introduced restrictions on their use and social distancing to protect the public.ttheir re-opening follows changes in advice from central government to ease the restrictions and enable people to live a more normal life.
