A PINEHURST man who pointed an air rifle out of the window in a dispute with his neighbours was warned by a judge “all options are open”.

Appearing before Swindon Crown Court on Friday morning via video link from HMP Bullingdon, Ryan New, 21, formerly of Beech Avenue, admitted possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause two people to fear that violence would be used against them.

Police were called at around lunchtime on June 22 after the young man aimed the weapon out of his bedroom window at his mother’s home on Beech Avenue.

Neighbouring Swindon Academy had to be put on lockdown for around 15 minutes while armed officers swooped on the home.

New was initially bailed to his dad’s home in Acacia Grove. But he was remanded in custody by magistrates earlier this month after they found he had breached his bail conditions.

His dad had not let his son live with him, meaning New had to stay with a cousin in Rodbourne Road.

However, he denied returning to his mum’s home in breach of his bail. The neighbour at whom he had pointed the gun claimed she had heard his distinctive voice.

Judge Jason Taylor QC ordered a pre-sentence report from the probation service and remanded New in custody for the hearing on August 24.

The judge said: “Just because I’m adjourning for a pre-sentence report doesn’t mean I’m giving any indication of the likely sentence given. All options remain open.”
