FIREFIGHTERS battled a blaze inside a house on Griffiths Close in Stratton.

They were called around 2pm and are still at the scene.

A neighbour told the Adver: "I was shocked. I hoped nobody was in there.
"And I feel sorry for the family who just lost everything."

A spokeswoman for the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to Griffiths Close, Stratton at 1.57pm for a fire involving the first floor bedroom of a house.

"Three fire crews are in attendance, from Swindon, Stratton and Westlea, together with the aerial ladder platform from Swindon.

"The fire is now out, but work is ongoing to strip the roof tiles and ensure that all hotspots have been dealt with.

"Six breathing apparatus wearers, one hose reel jet, one covering jet and a safety jet have been used. A fire investigation is underway."
