POLICE have joined a leading source of internet safety advice in an appeal to parents.
Cumbria Police and Get Safe Online are asking parents to ensure their children are aware of internet safety.
Get Safe Online said: "The young people in our families generally have a better hands-on knowledge of technology than we do.
"However this confidence could lead them to take more risks online that could adversely affect their finances, reputation or even their future if they end up with a criminal record."
Parents are asked to advise their children on internet banking, online gambling, over-sharing and identity before they leave for university.
Get Safe Online said: "What goes online stays online, including things your child might regret sooner or later."
