HOUSE hunting has surged in the past few weeks in the south west.

One developer has seen the rise of 341 per cent since the start of July 2020 in comparison to the same time period last year.

The government announced the housing market can restart from May 13.

Regional sales director for Bloor Homes, Sara Parker said: “Since the lockdown has eased, we’ve seen a significant increase in enquiries at our new housing developments across the south west. Interest is coming from both local buyers looking to upgrade to a new home that offers better space for their families, as well as those looking to relocate to this part of the country.

“For many years, the South West has been popular as a holiday destination for stay-cations, but now its appeal as a place to call home is really being realised.

“The stamp duty holiday recently announced by the Chancellor, coupled with the government’s Help to Buy scheme and low interest rates make it an opportune time to put down roots in a new home.”
