Idris Griffiths took on a jungle when he moved into his home but in less than two years he has turned it into a productive space.

Leylandii measuring 10ft tall, 35ft long and 6ft deep were removed, unveiling another 6ft of garden space and a new shed and greenhouse were installed. During lockdown he and his wife planted a veg plot at the property in Devizes.

Gardening is a tradition in the family. He said: "In the old days we had a large family and money was hard to come by so we had to live off the land. "My school teachers back in the 1950/60s taught me a lot about gardening."

His advice to novices is to "plan what you would like to achieve on paper and the costings also take your time to achieve your goal. If you need to get a contractor in for various jobs make sure you have at least two quotes and if possible ask them for references from previous customers."

He takes pride in a new flower bed that stretches all the way across the bottom of the garden which includes newly planted apple, pear, plum and cherry Trees. "We also plan to have our own patio area once we get rid of the last shed," he said.
