Swindon is one of just 17 areas in the country where coronavirus cases fell last week, according to reports.
Infection rates fell to 13.1 new cases per 100,000 people. That represented a drop of 35 per cent over the week, according to analysis of Public Health England data by the MailOnline.
However, in wider Wiltshire the infection rate rose from 3.2 new cases per 100,000 at the start of the week to 14.5 cases per 100,000 people on September 11, a rise of more than 350 per cent.
On Friday, Swindon was downgraded from an area of enhanced support on the government’s coronavirus watchlist to an area of concern.
The council’s director of public health Steve Maddern said he was hopeful that further falls in the case rate would result in Swindon coming off the watchlist soon.
