Swindon’s three coronavirus testing centres are “staying where they are”, the council’s public health direct has said.

The town has three test sites: a regional centre at Wroughton Park and Ride, a mobile test centre at the council offices off Beckhampton Street and an indoor facility in Broadgreen.

The latter was secured while Swindon was still an area receiving enhanced support from the government. When the town dropped off Public Health England’s covid watchlist earlier this month there were concerns it could result in test capacity dropping.

However, Swindon Borough Council director of public health said the test centres weren’t going anywhere – for now.

“At this moment in time all those test centres should be staying where they are. We’ve had no notification at this moment in time that they’re looking to move any,” he told reporters.

While Swindon now has three test centres, the number of tests being offered across the town – around 3,000 daily – is around the same as it was in August.

Mr Maddern said: “We are seeing a notable reduction of capacity across all our testing sites.” However, he said people were finding it easier now to get tests than they had a week earlier following widely-reported capacity issues in the labs responsible for processing the tests.
