Vandals have destroyed two bins in Trowbridge park in as many weeks.

On Monday council staff found a waste bin which was found next to the play area rocked out of the ground and crushed after fishing another out of the pond just weeks ago.

Carl Maddox, who supervises the Neighbourhood Services team says the bins could cost hundreds to replace.

He said: “The bins are around the park in a way that wherever you go, you’ve got somewhere to put your litter.

“Now we are missing two locations, which means people are more than likely to throw it on the ground. A litter picker is needed, and it is more wasted time for us.

“It’s costing the taxpayer.”

Town council leader, Cllr Stewart Palmen said that it is impossible to ‘continually’ police the bins to stop them being vandalised.

“It’s frustrating that some people have the mentality to want to go out and do that,” he said.

“The only answer is to make them as indestructible as possible.”

Town mayor and councillor for the park ward, Peter Fuller says that the incidents are ‘senseless’.

Cllr Fuller added: “People in Trowbridge are so proud of their park.

“It’s bad enough we have litter in the first place but not to have somewhere to put it is all a bit silly.

“Perhaps they’d be better off helping the community rather than the polar opposite.”

Both incidents have been reporter to the police.
