ROYAL Wootton Bassett Town Council has bought Manor House.
The building next to the town’s police station was once used by the Quartermaster's Regiment in the Second World War.
And it was home to Cricklade and Wootton Bassett Rural District Council, social services and the magistrates' court.
Having spent the last decade as individual offices the Manor House will undergo redevelopment which will provide a new Town Council office with a purpose-built chamber.
It will have dedicated community space with storage, an exhibition room and facilities for youth services.
Town mayor Nic Hughes said: “Manor House is a major investment for Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council, which will offer a multi-functional facility to our staff and our residents.
“The space available in the building will allow us a huge amount of flexibility in the services that we can offer and provide a real community hub for our townsfolk.”
