A NEW Sunday market is due to start in Melksham this weekend alongside the River Avon at the Avonside Enterprise Park.

The market is being run as a collaboration between The Avonside Enterprise Park and The Anonymous Travelling Market which also runs the Innox Mills Sunday market in Trowbridge.

The Salisbury-based company will bring a broad array of stalls to Melksham selling artisan goods and produce, much made or produced by the stallholders themselves.

Most overseas products on the markets are ethically produced or free trade and all of the stallholders are local or based in the Wessex region.

Steve Dauwalder, operations manager for The Anonymous Travelling Market,

said: "Outdoor markets are showing a surge of popularity again and the

Covid-19 pandemic makes people feel much more comfortable when shopping

outdoors."

Organisers have put in place stringent Covid-19 controls, including hand sanitising points, a track and trace system and a one-way route around the market site.

Some of Melksham's shops in the High Street and Bank Street have said they will be open.

Mr Dauwalder has been encouraged by public feedback, following on from the recent successes at the Trowbridge Innox Mills Sunday market and others around the Wessex region.

He added: "There will also be a few street food traders on site, making it a good opportunity to visit Melksham for lunch. There is still some space left for retail traders."

The following market will be on Sunday, November 22.
