A MUM says ponds that used to be a haven for wildlife have been left neglected.

Daisy Fisher-Mansell enjoys visiting the ponds next to Ashington Way in West Swindon and has been going there since she was a young girl.

But in recent years she’s noticed it’s being left unkept with algae covering the water, shrubs overgrown and rubbish is left around the green area.

She says this has caused the wildlife in the area to vanish.
Daisy, of Stratton, told the Adver: “I’m concerned the ponds and surrounding area are being neglected. When I was younger it was a haven for wildlife, the fountains were working.

"There was also little play park there and a mini-beach type area where you could sit and paddle. It’s such a shame to see what it’s become.
“There are quite a few people upset about the condition they’re now in. I went there a lot when I was younger. I lived in Toothill at the time so it was only a 10-minute walk.

“I have many fond memories of sitting with the statues there, paddling in the shallows, playing in the park and of feeding the ducks and fish. Now there are no ducks or fish or much of any wildlife there.”

Daisy goes there on the weekends after going to the Link Centre with her children but she would like it to have the spruce up it needs.
Asda West Swindon Superstore is responsible for keeping it maintained.

“I'd like to see the ponds cleared of all the overgrowth and rubbish and for the statues to be brought back to life. It’s disappointing they’ve let it go this way,” Daisy told the Adver.

“ I love that it’s a little resting spot after going shopping, skating or swimming, I also love that it’s such a secret, quiet little area, that’s off the beaten track, but not so far that it’s a chore to get to.

“It was a romantic place in a way, not at the moment, but it was.”
After posting her frustrations on Facebook many people had shared their disappointment with the way the green area had been left over the last few years.

Some commented that they had also been going to the pond for years but it’s not a place they enjoy any longer because of it being neglected.

The Adver has contacted Asda for a comment but the supermarket did not respond.
