A WOMAN has been charged with three assaults following an incident in Trowbridge town park and later in custody.
Angela Johnson, 37, of Francis Street, was charged with assault and two assaults on emergency workers.
She is due to appear at Salisbury Magistrates Court on January 22.
She was arrested for twice spitting and sneezing at police officers after being detained in Trowbridge town park on Tuesday following a report of a disorder involving a man and woman. On arrival, officers located a woman who matched the description given and she was verbally abusive towards police.
Johnson was arrested initially on suspicion of common assault.
During the arrest she allegedly spat in the face of an officer.
Whilst at Melksham custody centre, she allegedly sneezed aggressively towards another officer before spitting at him and claiming to have Covid-19.
Insp Dean Garvin said: “In less than 24 hours, we’ve had three officers spat at by individuals. This is disgraceful behaviour and given the current climate, it is particularly abhorrent.
“These police officers come to work every day to protect the public – they should not face behaviour like this when they come to work.”
