FIVE students have tested positive for Covid-19 at a school in Wroughton.

All Year 10 pupils at The Ridgeway School and Sixth Form College on Inverary Road are now self-isolating for 14 days after three confirmed cases.

And two Year 8 pupils who contracted the virus have been told to stay at home. The rest of the year group do not have to isolate.

Principal James Povoas wrote to all parents, carers, and staff to inform them of the situation.

He told the Adver: "We had a total of five confirmed cases at The Ridgeway School on Wednesday, November 25.

“We have followed the recommended guidance of Public Health England and asked these students to self-isolate for two weeks from initial contact date.”

A Swindon Borough Council spokesman said: “We are working with The Ridgeway School and Sixth Form College to manage the recent Covid-19 cases.

“All the contacts of the positive cases have been identified and have been told to self-isolate in line with public health guidance.

“We have been liaising closely with the school to review its procedures and are satisfied senior leaders have taken the appropriate action to safeguard pupils and staff.”
